Catalogue description

Thematic cultural note

Pirosmani frequently painted a frontal, almost ceremonial table structure. As analyzed by Ana Shanshiashvili, its symmetry, alongside the raised wine vessels and still figures are linked to older Georgian feast imagery. That said, taverns were also a central part to his working life.
