Description

Pirosmani presents himself frontally in dark clothing.

Cultural Note

Pirosmani’s portraits often depict figures facing the viewer directly and standing outside detailed settings. Scholars compare the frontal and steady gaze to Georgian icon and memorial traditions - offering additional evidence of his self-taught background.
