Description

A large wine cellar stands within a forest setting.

Cultural Note

The recurrence of these themes can be explained by the fact that Pirosmani was born in Mirzaani, Kakheti, and came from Georgia’s major eastern wine region. Paintings depicting this imagery connect to his biography – vineyard labor, cellars, and the region’s qvevri wine-making culture.
